Tree service in Harrisburg, where the wind hits hard
Harrisburg grew from about 6,700 people in 2020 to more than 10,000 by 2024, and it's taken some of the worst wind in the metro two summers running.
Census estimates put Harrisburg at 10,203 people in July 2024, up from 6,738 at the 2020 census, about a 51 percent jump by our arithmetic. It's in Lincoln County, south of Sioux Falls, and a Tree City USA community. Growth that fast means a lot of new subdivisions with young trees, plus older homes and acreages with spruce windbreaks and big shade trees. Harrisburg wasn't on the state's June 2025 list of towns with confirmed emerald ash borer, but all of Lincoln County is inside the EAB quarantine and the beetle is in Tea and Sioux Falls next door.
The wind is the bigger story here. On July 28, 2025, a derecho gusted to 68 mph a mile north-northeast of Harrisburg. On July 25, 2026, the National Weather Service recorded 81 mph a mile west of Harrisburg and reported widespread tree and fence damage across town. Our Harrisburg work is storm cleanup and removals, structural pruning on young trees so they don't split in the next storm, spruce windbreak care, ash assessments, stump grinding and replanting.

Questions from Harrisburg homeowners
Is emerald ash borer in Harrisburg?
It wasn't on the state's June 2025 list of confirmed towns, but all of Lincoln County is in the quarantine and the beetle is confirmed in Tea and Sioux Falls. If you have a healthy ash worth keeping, it's time to consider treatment.
How bad was the July 2026 storm in Harrisburg?
The National Weather Service recorded 81 mph a mile west of town and reported widespread tree and fence damage across Harrisburg.
Our new trees keep splitting. Why?
Young trees with two competing leaders split at the fork in high wind. Structural pruning in the first few years fixes that.
Do you take down windbreak rows?
Yes. We remove or thin spruce rows and chip everything. Thinning every other tree often saves the rest.
